Welcome Wall of Peace Friends

There is a time and a season for everything. Wall of Peace Against Westboro Baptist Church  was created first as a Facebook page by Sabrina, in response to the outrageous notion that picketing the funerals of fallen members of the military was an appropriate place to spread bigotry and hatred. She founded that  first page on the premise that good people could and would respond in a peaceful manner of counter-protest by literally surrounding grieving families with a human wall to shield them from the sights and sounds of hateful bigotry where ever WBC appeared. I ( Kate) then came along a few weeks later to help tend the homefires by volunteering to moderate the page with her. Since then, we've been joined by several others, and there is now a group of moderators. It's been an amazing journey, and it continues with this new site.

The Facebook page served it's purpose very well for the group-for posting updates so individuals could respond to WBC picket sites and as a place where people could express their frustration at the actions of Westboro Baptist and their deepest sorrow for the loss of loved ones in the military. Many of you who visited the page became friends-not just "Facebook Friends-but friends in a very real, heartfelt connection...and you became our friends, too. Together we became the mortar that held the Wall of Peace together.

Two weeks ago, when the WBC websites were hacked and brought down by a vigilante organization, the purpose of  Wall of Peace temporarily changed to that of a place to gather and express anger and frustration, and we embraced that . At the time, we were no longer able update the picketing schedule to track their movements. Then the case of a soldier's family targeted by WBC went to trial in the Supreme Court, and the Justices made the decision that WBC was within it's First Amendment rights of free speech and could continue to protest military funerals. The public outrage was and is overwhelming, and it showed in the paradigm shift taken on the Wall of Peace Facebook page. Again, we encouraged people to keep talking- and that remembering that bigotry and hatred have no place in our society. The anger was too much for some individuals, and they lashed out blindly, threatening verbal and physical harm through posts on the page wall- not only toward WBC, but toward one another, and toward the moderators.Chaos ensued and the peaceful resolve of the group was momentarily lost. There were obscene outbursts, accusations of anti-patriotism and religious favoritism flying in every direction- much of it spurned on by only a few individuals with private agenda's trolling through threads on Facebook.

This is a new day, and there is a stronger Wall of Peace Against Westboro Baptist Church. The format has changed, but the benefits are many...it will once again be a place where calmness and peace will be the primary focus as our mission. One of those benefits is that we will no longer be subjected to the seemingly daily design changes of Facebook,or  the sudden techno-quirks of their utility network. Another will be that we can moderate the page in a more orderly fashion, and that we aren't under their vague rules of what is acceptable and what is not on a FB community page. Now the picket updates will appear on the homepage along with other information, such as news articles and videos. In the next few days there will be additional pages of interest added to the site. You will still be able to post and respond in the comments sections provided under the administrative posts, even though the format will take a little getting used to for most of us...and you will be able to 'guest' blog (by sending your prepared piece to our new email address or notifying  a moderator to assist you.) Most importantly, you will still be able to speak your mind with caring and thoughtfulness.

Stand up and become a Wall of Peace Against Westboro Baptist Church. Let's show WBC what patriotism and love of country is all about- that bigotry and hatred will not be tolerated in America by a few puny tyrants
with signs.  The most important brick in the Wall of Peace Against Westboro Baptist Church is YOU.

  6. I watched Margi Phelps on Fox News Sunday with Chris Wallace as he interviewed Margie Phelps, attorney for the WBC. She had pat answers for everything. A very well spoken woman. It was a good interview but, Chris Wallace was no match for her.
I love this site. Thanks to all for keeping a place to talk and pray for peace. Is there any info on the funerals of these soldiers; Andrew Wilfahrt 31, Brian Tabada 21, Rudolph Hizon 22, Chauncy Mays 25, Christopher G. Stark, 22 are all soldiers who gave their lives this week?

  9. I am asking ALL to contact their local & at least one national media outlet and request ZERO coverage for WBC events. WBC calls ahead & arranges the media circus- OBSCURITY IS THEIR WORST ENEMY, THEIR GREATEST FEAR. Turn a blind eye, a deaf ear. Block them in person, but never respond to their comments. Refusing to interact will enrage them-trust me on that one!

  11. Hi! So it's not really a new page, it's a new blog :) May God's blessings continue to grow and prosper the love that you produce!

  12. This is the only effective way to counteract the hatred and bigotry that WBC preaches. Please, I get angry too. But to wish physical harm on another person only makes your mind and soul tired, and on the same level as theirs. Please remember that love and tolerance is the best course of action.

  18. So the dates, times and places on the left-hand side of the home page are where WBC will be next, correct?

  19. Just a reminder, folks..The pickets WBC is planning are listed on the top of the column to the left, and that's where they will always be from now on so they're instantly visible. If there is a military funeral scheduled in your area and you know WBC is going to be there...contact us so we can post it (Date, name, location of service, town, time.)
With the WBC sites down, we have no way to check their schedule. We're exploring other avenues right now, but haven't found anything reliable. We'll keep trying; we aren't about to give up!~Kate

  20. I have written Patriot Guard to see if they might share any picket schedule info they have with us - so that may be posted here as well.
    Thanks to everyone who helps
    many blessings,

  21. I hope you do not bring your FB page down, but morph it into a community site. Maybe limit comments, if that is possible? Many people use social media such as FB to find out about organizations; I strongly suggest y'all find a way to continue to use it. God bless you for your work. Please let me know if there is anything you need in the way of volunteers.

  22. I love the new site. I am so proud of the members of the patriot guard for stepping up and doing what is right. It touches my heart to see them blocking the sound and vision of the protestors at the funerals. Thank-you!

  23. Hello I am an ordained minister
    in Louisville Ky. who helped
organize a group of 400 or more
to stand shoulder to shoulder in
    peace to confront Westboro Sunday
when five of them showed up at
a Catholic church to try to disrupt
the evening mass having put out
    unspeakable accusations against
    ALL CATHOLICS AND THE POPE
based on the actions of a few
    pedophile priests in a news
    release prior to arriving.
    Many races were present and
    varied religons as well as
    aetheists and agnostics.
    I gave a pagan lady a ride
to the event. We put our
    religious differences aside
    to stand united against hatred
    and bigotry and it worked!
Westboro does not know how to
react to LOVE and PEACE, it
    throws them off their programmed
scripts. They were gone in about
25 minutes. No sign waiving and
I never heard a word out of them
thanks to the six patriot guard
members who donated their time to
come and support us. God bless them.
Kind of hard to talk over the roar
of six Harley's crusing up and down
the street next to them! I could not
help but notice that the one Westboro
woman the TV news interviewed, Rachel,
looked weary, dejected, disscusted and defeated.

  24. Hi -
In another post you said that the WBC gets money per click on their sites - could you explain that a bit? How are they making money on that? I'd like to know so I may post that info and let those who go to their odious sites know they are actually supporting them in their attempts to keep tabs on them.
    Thank you!

  25. There are some sites that receive a credit which translates into cash for every view of their site-a "click".To our knowledge, all of Westboro's sites are set up this way, so only one of our moderators go into their sites to read the protest schedule and press releases when the sites are up and running.~ Kate

  26. Hi Kate -
thanks for the info! Would you post this on the United Support for Al Snyder and Against Military Funeral Protests facebook page? Since you know more about this than I do, if anyone has a question you could answer it better than I. Thanks again,
    Jo
